The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine Château Pontet-Canet is the "rising star" of Bordeaux region. In a constant ascent since the start of the 2000s, in recent vintages, this illustrious direct neighbour to Château Mouton Rothschild has obtained the supreme score of 100/100 Parker points and is now one of those Châteaux that sit in a class of their own. The wines show a style that is full of majesty, showing astounding candour and energy. We applaud Alfred Tesseron and his estate manager Jean-Michel Comme who, unlike just about all the other Bordeaux wine estates, have had the courage to adopt biodynamic viticulture.
Wine With this Pauillac 2011, Château Pontet-Canet offers us a bottle that has marked the vintage. Bettane & Desseauve crowned it "one of the best from all of the Médoc". After tasting it, our experts concur - this is indeed a high-calibre wine, the result of a meticulous sorting of the grapes in the vineyards and in the winery, where the slow oxygenation of the wines in barrel has polished the tannins giving them a seductive charm. The wine's energy and density remain impressive. Pontet Canet is one sexy bottle of wine which rivals its illustrious neighbour Mouton, yet remains within a reasonable price range that will delight fans of the Grands Crus Classés.
Vinification Grapes harvested by hand.
