The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine Adored by our Selection Committee for many years, Château Pavie-Macquin remains one of our most treasured Bordeaux estates. And for good reason—this Premier Grand Cru Classé, a direct neighbour of Pavie and Troplong-Mondot, offers a truly distinctive style, defined by remarkable freshness and energy drawn from its exceptionally complex terroir of interwoven limestone and clay. For Bordeaux enthusiasts, Pavie-Macquin is the ultimate benchmark.

As long-time admirers, we have always championed this estate and its singular style. It stands as Bordeaux’s most vibrant, tension-filled wine—an ideal we have supported and celebrated well before it captivated the critics and earned its place as a true reference.
Wine With 90% Merlot, the 2019 Red Saint-Émilion Les Chênes de Macquin reveals delicate truffle accents, macerated fruit notes, and a subtle smokiness from its barrel ageing. Concentrated and perfectly ripe, it carries its oak maturation with finesse, offering a rich, velvety texture with remarkable precision and elegance. A beautiful expression of both the vintage and the estate’s grand vin, delivering depth and character in a more approachable style—yet far from simple. Enjoy it now with proper decanting or serve in large-bowled glasses. Rated 92/100 by the Selection Committee.
Vinification Harvested by hand. Individual vinification in wooden and concrete vats. Aged on fine lees, with a first racking after 6 to 10 months and a second one a year later. Aged for 12 months in barrels that have already contained one wine.
