The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine An absolute reference in Rioja for over a century, Vina Tondonia is an unwavering provider of great wines.

Carrying an ambitious vision and an uncompromising style, Maria José Lopez de Heredia has indeed elevated her estate to the highest ranks of global viticulture. Her integrity and unceasing quest for perfection have crafted timeless terroir wines, long-aged in barrels, and year after year endorsed by the most influential critics!
Wine With supreme elegance, the 2001 red Viña Tondonia Rioja Gran Reserva defies its age... In a blind tasting, one could easily mistake it for being a decade younger. The harmony it exudes, the nuances of its aromas, and its great subtlety all contribute to its astonishing youthfulness. Tempranillo and Grenache come together in unison, unified by unique aging in old vats over 150 years old, and a maturation of more than 10 years in barrels. A unique and unusual trajectory that defies time and grants it this sovereign radiance. On the nose, notes of spices, cigar, and cedar are accompanied by a more evolved touch, while on the palate, the velvety tannins charm, with a fine grain and a savory tone brought by the limestone soils. An eternal wine at the peak of Rioja! Rated 98/100 by Robert Parker, it is truly a grand wine.
Vinification Hand harvested, aged for 10 years in barrels with 2 decantings per year, bottled in 2012
