The wines are as monumental as ever, of obvious mastery and complexity, certainly even more delicate and accomplished than 20 years ago, delivering with incredible force a palate texture and fruitiness of the highest order.

Pure tannat, still guided by a sumptuous, meticulous maturing process combining foudres and barrels, the 2019 red Château Montus Madiran offers all the success of the vintage, with notes of black fruit, graphite, licorice, and spices. Dense and concentrated, still in its youth, it unfurls a full, seductive body of great consistency; it's a wine that needs time and should be decanted before serving with a shoulder of lamb confit or a jugged hare.
