Wine:

Lavishly indulgent, the 2018 white Alsace Grand Cru Pinot Gris Sommerberg Vendanges Tardives is a remarkable wine in terms of density. Its golden hue is an enchantment, and the caressing nose of warm aromas of mirabelle plum jam and smoke, ordered around a pretty confit, equally engaging. The silky texture and harmonious resonance of its flavors complete the picture in the most beautiful way; notes of speck, smoked ham, plum and stone fruit come to the fore, in exceptional smoothness, a beautiful fullness of mouth. A great liquoreux that deserves time, to be left to age quietly before pairing with a mirabelle plum soufflé. A Committee favorite, rated 95/100.

Vinification:

Hand-harvested, whole-grape pressing, static settling, no thermoregulation.
Fermentation for 2 to 6 months, followed by 11 months ageing on lees.
Residual sugar: 70g/l - Sweet wine.

Color:

Luminous golden yellow with old gold highlights.

Nose:

Complex aromas of candied mirabelle plums with a smoky touch of pinot gris.

Palate:

Full-bodied and delicious, with lovely notes of plum and smoked meat, this cuvée is exceptionally smooth, with good concentration and a long, syrupy finish.

Temperature:

Serve between 10 and 12°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Apple tart, mirabelle soufflé, citrus salad.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2036
