Château L'Evangile - Pomerol - Rouge - 2023

"I was really surprised this year by the class and finesse of this château, l'Evangile delivers a refined and subtle wine." These were Olivier Poussier's first words about the 2023 Evangile at our En-Primeurs wine tasting.

Ideally situated in the heart of the greatest Pomerols, sandwiched between the most prestigious of them all, Petrus, and Château Cheval Blanc, which marks the border with Saint-Emilion, Château l'Évangile is on the verge of excellence. The estate belongs to Domaines Baron de Rothschild, who also own the legendary Lafite in Pauillac... Suffice it to say that the standards set are ultra-high... Since 2018, the vineyard has even converted to organic farming, with a few trials in biodynamics.

Rated 96/100 by Olivier Poussier, the 2023 vintage marks no pause in this ascent, driven by a majority of tasty Merlot (78%), which has not suffered from mildew. The presence of Cabernet Franc (21%), more important here than elsewhere, still underlines the wine's great staying power, and signs an ample, silky Evangile, with delicate concentration and extreme grace.

Once again, excellence is at work, and we can only look forward to its future aging. No hesitation if you wish to acquire one of Pomerol's trophies!
