Wine:

The 2022 Red Bierzo Pico Ferreira is a wine of rare elegance, combining the freshness of the northern part of the appellation, near the village of Corullon, with meticulous winemaking that includes 20% whole clusters and aging in 500-liter barrels. Produced from just 30 ares of Mencia (85%) blended with Alicante Bouschet, this original, harmonious, and elegant red is marked by ripe fruit and subtle spicy notes. Rich and juicy, it explores the limestone character of its soils with precision and complexity. Rated 95/100 by Parker.

César Marquez is a winemaker to watch, as his wines continue to impress. As the nephew of Raúl Pérez, he shares the same talent and instinct for blending and winemaking, crafting remarkable cuvées in Bierzo that are known for their precision and finesse.

With century-old vines, carefully selected parcels, and a focus on freshness and altitude, Marquez masters the art of aging in stainless steel tanks, barrels, and demi-muids (500 to 600 liters).

His deep understanding of terroir makes him one of the most promising winemakers in Spain. Recognized by Parker from his very first vintages, Marquez is also a driving force behind Castro Ventosa, Bierzo’s oldest and most legendary bodega.
