AWARDS

Wine rated 93/100, our Committee's favourite

Wine:

A pure Syrah from vines planted in 1971, aged in 500-liter barrels without new oak, the 2023 Red L’Annexe du Devay Vin de France Syrah is a truly remarkable bottle. This wine is all about finesse, capturing the soul of the southern Rhône with both intensity and elegance. The nose unfolds with beautiful aromas of speck and black pepper, while the palate remains just as refined—fresh, subtle, and impeccably balanced. Fine tannins frame its ripe, juicy fruit, making it an irresistibly generous and approachable wine. A perfect companion for any occasion, any season, and enjoyable now or over the next 2 to 3 years. A Selection Committee favorite, rated 93/100.

Vinification:

Hand harvested. Vines planted in 1971 in the commune of Saint-Amans. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats for around 12 days. Malolactic fermentation and 10 months' ageing in 500 litre oak barrels used for 1 to 3 wines. Unfined, unfiltered. Production of 3,772 bottles.
Wine made from purchased grapes: The estate pays the same attention to monitoring the ripeness of the plots, hand harvesting, vinification, ageing and bottling, and applies the same exacting standards and processes.

Nestled on the outskirts of Vienne, facing Seyssuel, and coveted by Michelin-starred restaurants—including Le Bristol, Le Cheval-Blanc Paris, Le Clos des Sens, Hélène Darroze, La Bouitte, and Lameloise—Le Devay is an estate with bold ambitions. Just a few kilometers from the final parcels of Côte-Rôtie, this domaine, established in 2015, has set an uncompromising standard of quality.

Here, biodynamics, permaculture, and agroforestry are fully embraced by Jean-Charles Fournet, a passionate and determined new-generation vigneron working five hectares of vines.

Guided by Pierre-Jean Villa, a close friend and advisor, the wines stand out for their remarkable freshness and tension, impressing both seasoned wine lovers and some of the Rhône’s most revered winemakers. Jean-Michel Gerin, Christine Vernay, Yves Gangloff, and Thierry Germain—enthusiasts from the very beginning—are among the estate’s earliest champions.
