Wine:

The 2022 Red Châteauneuf-du-Pape Julien Barrot is a striking expression of Grenache, revealing a complex nose of ripe dark fruits, spices, black olive, and wild herbs. On the palate, it is structured and harmonious, with velvety tannins supporting its depth and concentration. The finish is long and precise, showcasing the balance and refinement of this vintage. A remarkable wine that reflects Julien Barrot’s expertise. Rated 92/100 by RVF.

Vinification:

From red clay soils with a predominance of sand in the northeast of the appellation, these vines have an average age of over 65 years, with nearly 50% being century-old Grenache. The grapes are hand-harvested, with unripe stems removed before fermentation in tulip-shaped concrete vats. Maceration lasts over four weeks. The wine is aged for 22 months in a combination of tulip-shaped concrete vats, foudres, and demi-muids, ensuring a refined and balanced expression of its terroir.

Temperature:

Decant before serving between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Seared rib of beef, grilled duck breast, leg of lamb with pepper sauce, Provençal-style beef stew, mature cheeses.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2030 and beyond for enthusiasts.

A hidden gem of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, praised by Best Sommelier in the World Olivier Poussier, Domaine La Barroche is celebrated for both the exceptional quality of its wines and its understated reputation.

Julien and Laetitia Barrot manage old vines, some over a century old, in the finest areas of the appellation, particularly in the northern sector near Rayas. Their dedication to freshness results in remarkable cuvées, available exclusively through allocation.

With small production volumes, aging in concrete tanks and large wooden vessels, and its singular focus on quality, this estate has become a highly sought-after name among wine enthusiasts and collectors.
