Wine:
Rated 95/100 and a Committee Favorite, the Morgon Côte du Py Javernières Les Impénitents Rouge 2022 is a gamay of great stature, juicy and admirably full-bodied. The fruit is beautifully expressed, with notes of quinine, a graphite and mineral profile, and especially a very fine tannic structure. This full and concentrated red wine, imbued with the essence of its terroir and from 109-year-old vines, has superb potential. Production is limited, as the wine comes from just 80 ares.Vinification:
Hand-harvested on September 19, 2019, 0.80-hectare plot with south-east exposure on hillsides, 106-year-old vines, deep clay soils impregnated with iron oxide in the lower part of the Py hill, traditional vinification, 95% whole bunches and 5% de-stemming, 11-day vatting, 10-month ageing in cement vats.Color:
Bright, intense red.Nose:
Beautiful gamay fruitiness, highlighted by notes of cinchona and stone fruit.Palate:
Rich and deep, this cuvée unfurls a precise, concentrated juice, with an accent of cinchona and a graphite and mineral register.
Temperature:
Serve between 16 and 18°C in a large glass, such as a Gran Ultima Royal Glass.Food and wine pairing:
Traditional pâté en croûte, onglet de boeuf à l'échalote, filet de boeuf sauce marchand de vin, volaille rôtie, coq au vin, carré de veau rôti au four.Cellar aging:
From now until 2038, and even longer for enthusiasts.
A benchmark in Morgon and awarded 3 stars by the RVF Guide, Domaine Louis-Claude Desvignes crafts profound and sensitive wines, certainly among the most moving in their region. Far from any archetype or simplicity, they capture the fine expression of Morgon's best terroirs, nurtured with a refined, wood-free aging process that imparts a certain firmness in youth, hinting at their enormous potential.
Anyone who has tasted the wines crafted by the sibling duo Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît Desvignes has experienced a special emotion. A favorite of Parker in Beaujolais, who highly recommends "these sumptuous wines that embody everything brilliant about Morgon," they are definitely worth seizing without hesitation.
