Wine:
The 2020 red Côte de Nuits Villages comes from an old vineyard in the commune of Brochon. Only 2 plots, near La Croix Violette and Les Vignois. It's an estate vineyard, 62 ares only. Vinification is traditional, with sober ageing, including 1/3 new barrels. It's a wine that's accessible earlier, still in the house spirit of the Esmonin estate, infused, precise and refined.
A prominent figure in Gevrey-Chambertin and an inspired winemaker, Sylvie Esmonin presides over a treasure trove of old vines, primarily on the legendary terroirs of the Côte de Nuits.
Practicing biodynamics in her vineyards, she continues to infuse her wines with incredible vitality, primarily vinifying with whole clusters, reviving the golden age of the 19th century when Pinot Noir resonated with a unique natural brilliance. This unparalleled style, forged over two decades, now allows the domain to stand at the highest level alongside the greatest references in Burgundy.
Despite its modest size, this estate is a sensation among enthusiasts who consistently find a unique soul here. Discovering it is necessary, but acquiring its wines remains a challenge.
